Set in more than 220 acres of beautiful North Yorkshire countryside, Queen Ethelburga’s has provided students with a vibrant and supportive school community since 1912. Queen Ethelburga’s Collegiate comprises four schools with international boarding from 6 years old through to 19 years old, each with its unique qualities. There are strong academic standards across the Collegiate and students are encouraged to have high expectations for their achievements and career prospects. There is a wide curriculum available enabling students to pursue their individual interests and aspirations across a range of fields.
The boarding accommodation at QE is probably the finest in Europe and 6th Form students have apartment style accommodation, comprising of a kitchen/lounge area with plasma TV’s, music centre, safe, iron and ironing board, microwave, dishwasher and fridge. All apartments on the campus are en-suite and are designed for 3 students.
QE is also proud of its excellent sports facilities with a large Sports Hall, 25 metre indoor heated swimming pool, sauna, Fitness Centre, grass and AstroTurf sport pitches and tennis courts. Students can participate in a variety of sports including football, rugby, basketball, cricket, hockey, tennis, athletics, swimming and gymnastics, plus others.
Queen Ethelburga’s Collegiate (QE) has a long-standing relationship with the British Forces and has welcomed Forces students for over 100 years. As a preferred school for military families, we currently have over 340 Forces students boarding with us on a campus of 1300 students. We welcome boarders from Year 3 onwards and pride ourselves on our wrap-around specialist support for our Forces students and their families. We are CEA accredited and in recognition of our commitment to the British Forces, we offer a significant reduction in fees to CEA, non-CEA and Ex-Forces families.
Across the Collegiate there is an understanding of the importance of providing a secure and supportive home from home for students whose parents may need to travel or live abroad for work. Staff strive to create the right learning and living environment in which every student can thrive. QE has two specialist Forces Liaison Officers and hosts support clinics and a keeping in touch club for students, where staff help students to contact parents who may be deployed abroad, chat about issues that are important to them and offer any other support they require. QE recognises the significance that a community can have on military children and therefore creates opportunities for them to feel part of a community within a larger community. Students can join the Forces Club or Combined Cadet Force, partake in our own Remembrance Parade onsite, and join activities for events like Armed Forces Day. We even have a boarding house mascot, Geoffrey Giraffe, who goes on military adventures.
“To be the best that I can with the gifts that I have.”
