Queen Margaret’s School for Girls

Established in 1901, QM is an independent boarding and day school for girls aged 11-18. You will find us in glorious parkland six miles south of York, but we are much more than our surroundings, we are more than a school. Our girls engage enthusiastically in a range of activities - no airs and graces, no frills or make-up, just girls getting stuck in, and having fun.

Our girls come from a variety of backgrounds and they have homes in different corners of the world. Many girls board, not because they have to, but because they want to.

Staffed by dedicated teams, our boarding houses are a real home from home. Weekends are full of opportunity, from high-adrenaline adventures to relaxed pamper evenings, there is always plenty going on. Returning home for exeat weekends is not compulsory.

QM is easily accessible for overseas students - York Station is a 15-minute taxi journey away and is on the main railway line from London King’s Cross to Edinburgh. Leeds/Bradford and Manchester airports are around 60 and 90 minutes away respectively.

QM offers generous discounts on boarding fees to supplement the CEA.

QM is 10 minutes’ drive from York Garrison, less than an hour from Catterick Garrison and RAF Leeming, and 90 minutes from RAF Cranwell. London and Edinburgh are two hours away by train. Leeds Bradford International airport is 45 minutes away and Manchester International airport
