“Success is celebrated and talent nurtured, with the ethos being greenhouse, not hothouse.”
An inspired community, set within 210 acres and a breath-taking mansion, 90 minutes from London. Class sizes are small, staff know students well and the strong sense of community ensures pupils feel valued. In 2023 Westonbirt won ‘Co-educational Independent School of the Year’ (Independent School Parent).
It offers a broad curriculum with opportunities to tailor options to individuals. Achievement is good, especially at A Level, where 41% 2023 grades were at A-A* and university destinations included Oxford, and Nottingham (for medicine). The abundance of space and breadth of co-curricular programme support a holistic approach to education.
Sport has great provision; facilities include a swimming pool, AstroTurf, golf course and gym. Music, Art and Drama are key with many opportunities for exhibitions and performances. Other activities include beekeeping, Lego league, basketball, politics, chess, coding, photography and astronomy. There is an emphasis on developing leadership skills and preparing students for life beyond school. Westonbirt offers the DoE Awards, the CCF and the opportunity to undertake global service trips to India, Nepal or Kenya.
Boarding is offered from Year 6 and boarders form 25% of the 500-strong senior school community and children from service families are welcomed. Full boarders in receipt of the CEA pay 10% of full fees; day pupils of serving members of HM Forces are eligible for a reduction of up to 10%, subject to parents’ circumstances.
